About

Albyn Housing Society serves an ever-growing number of communities in the Highlands, providing good quality, affordable housing for thousands of people across the region. For over five decades Albyn has listened and responded to the views of its customers, local government, communities and businesses in meeting housing needs in the Highlands.

The Highlands is facing a significant housing challenge with an estimated 24,000 new homes needed over the next decade to support growing demand, especially in relation to the expected economic boost to the region by the awarding of Green Freeport status. Albyn is committed to playing a leading role in tackling the chronic housing shortage, through responding to the Highland Housing Challenge, whilst ensuring new build developments, and existing stock alike, are sustainable, energy efficient, and fit for the future.

Albyn has supported its customers through the cost-of-living crisis and the ongoing challenging economic environment, delivering over £222,000 of funding to our most vulnerable tenants in 2024/25.

In partnership with academia and government, Albyn is at the forefront of the development of innovative technology that utilises artificial intelligence and machine learning to help tenants live independently for longer in our award winning Fit Homes.

Job Description

It is an extremely exciting time to join the Albyn Board which plays a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction of the organisation, providing oversight of performance, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Whilst applications are welcome from everyone, Albyn is particularly keen to hear from those with the following skills and experience:

  • Accountancy
  • Social Housing Sector
  • Artificial Intelligence or Technology and Innovation

Board Members are required to attend one Board Strategy Day meeting in person per year, as well as six Board meetings which can be attended remotely.

No qualifications are required to serve on the Board and Albyn is keen to encourage people from all backgrounds, reflecting the communities it serves.

These are non-remunerated positions although expenses will be paid. There will be ample opportunities to develop knowledge, experience and personal skills, as well as networking opportunities.

“Joining Albyn’s Board is a genuinely unique and rewarding opportunity. You’ll be helping to shape real change, not just within our organisation but across the communities we serve in the Highlands. We are looking for people who are passionate about making a difference and who want to be part of something that has purpose, ambition and heart. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.” Lesley McInnes, Chair of Albyn Board

“If you want to make a real difference to the quality of people’s lives in the Highlands, this is a great opportunity. We support over 80 rural communities, many in need of a safe and warm place to live. We have led the way on many innovative projects that improve the lives of our tenants from assisting with fuel poverty to using technology to help our tenants live independently for longer.

We want people who can promote and uphold our values at Albyn and can ensure that we stay the course in delivering for our tenants. But you don’t necessarily need experience in social housing. We ensure our Board Members are guided through the process, including formal training and a mentor on hand to assist you.” Kirsty Morrison, Group Chief Executive of Albyn Housing Society
