Laminate Flooring Advice

Laminate wooden flooring has become increasingly popular as a floor covering in our homes over the last few years. This can cause some problems when we need to carry out repairs and the flooring has to be lifted. If not laid properly it can also increase noise transmission to other parts of the building.
We encourage tenants to check that their home contents insurance will cover any damage that may occur. We would also encourage tenants to use the 'click' system of laminate flooring as it allows the flooring to be lifted with out damage and re-laid, where as the glued system does not.
We suggest that a sound proofing underlay be used as this reduces the sound transfer between buildings especially in flats. This certainly reduces the nuisance noise levels that affect others, and in turn reduces conflict between neighbours. Fibreboard is a much more effective sound proofing material than the plastic/ thin foam underlay that some systems use.
We hope that the above advice is useful. Further information is available in your Tenants’ Handbook or from our Property Maintenance Services team.
