Moving to a smaller home

Do you live in a house that is now too big for you?

If so, you might have thought about moving to a smaller home, but been put off by the costs of moving.  The Highland Housing Register is testing out a new scheme in 2011 to give extra help to people wanting to move from houses with 2 or more bedrooms to something smaller.

You may want to consider moving to a smaller home if:

You are finding your home becoming too costly to run and difficult to manage.

  • You are finding it difficult to manage the stairs.

  • The number of people in your household has reduced. (for example, because children have grown up and left home)

  • You may want to move to a different location to be nearer family, work or carers.

 What would help you move?

Highland Housing Register asked housing applicants what sort of help would encourage them to move from their current larger sized family home to a smaller home. The answer was a combination of practical and financial help.

We can offer the following assistance to tenants if you live in a home that is now too large for you.    Additional priority may apply if your home needs an adaptation for health reasons that can be met by moving to a smaller home instead.
