- Mairi and James lived in a small, privately rented flat. With a young child, they needed more space especially with another baby due. They couldn't afford to move to a larger private flat as the rents are too high. Their current flat is also quite damp which made their son's asthma worse. Albyn was able to house them in a family house with a garden, much nearer to where the rest of the family live so Mairi could get help with childcare and think about going back to work.
- A young couple wished to buy a property and set up home together. They wished to buy their own property but when they applied for a mortgage they found that they could not raise enough to buy a property on the open market. They could, however, get a mortgage to buy a one half share of one of the Society's Shared Ownership properties and now have taken the first step on the property ladder at an affordable level.
- "I have been in and out of the hospital due to suffering from depression. I was not able to deal with day-to-day living and felt nobody cared. I wanted to die. I was offered accommodation with support. My future seems much brighter now and I know people care for me and are there to help me cope."
- A 25-year-old tradesman who, prior to applying for a Rural Home Ownership Grant, lived in a single bedroom flat attached to his parent's home with his partner and their young daughter. He had purchased a site but was unable to afford to construct a house on it. Providing him with a RHOG enabled him to become a home owner within the local community close to his place of work and also his family.
- "I was sleeping rough for years because I did not want the hassle of responsibility, as I am an alcoholic. My health was deteriorating and the winters were becoming hell for me. I was offered and have accepted supported accommodation because I don't think I can survive another winter outside."
- The Community Council in Applecross wanted to do something about the lack of affordable housing opportunities for local people. Working with the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust a site was identified and acquired from the local estate. Following detailed discussions over mix, design and lettings priorities, Albyn Housing Society provided 8 quality new houses which were allocated using the Local Lettings Initiative.
