Aim
The role of a Deposit Guarantee Scheme is to help address the barriers individuals can face when they do not have the necessary capital to secure a tenancy in the private sector and thus extend the available housing options. Objectives
The primary objectives of the scheme are to:
  1. Help address problems of homelessness.
  2. Make privately rented accommodation in Highland more widely accessible
    to people on low incomes.
  3. Create sustainable tenancies and support tenants in their home.
Benefits to Landlords
  1. A chance to let their property more quickly.
  2. Assistance with processing Housing Benefit.
  3. Free advice and information in connection with the lettings process.
  4. A Guarantee in place of a cash deposit.
  5. Support and mediation, if required, throughout the tenancy.
Benefits for tenants
  1. No need to raise a deposit at the initial stage of the tenancy.
  2. Assistance with all aspects of setting up and managing a tenancy.
  3. Access to mediation, if required, between the tenant and landlord if necessary.
  4. Access to a wider range of affordable housing.
