Are you ready for Digital Switchover?
28 May 2010

You may be aware that Highland region will be switching over to digital TV this year.  Albyn will be sending information to all of our tenants on how to prepare for the switchover and when it is due to happen in your area.

You can check when your house is due to switchover by going online to www.digitaluk.co.uk and entering your postcode or by phoning Digital UK on 08456 50 50 50.

The Society will be writing to tenants in flats where Albyn have provided a communal aerial to advise how we will be preparing for the switchover and advising of any works that will be carried out.

Most aerials will be suitable for digital but there is a simple test to check your signal strength.  Go to analogue Teletext page 284.

If the picture on your TV is missing four or more white blocks, it is likely that you will need an aerial upgrade.  Ignore any rows which are completely missing.  This doesn’t indicate a problem with your aerial. We will be sending leaflets to all tenants with further information.

You will not be able to receive digital through your TV set alone unless it has Freeview or similar built in.  You will need a digital receiver such as a Freeview box, Sky, Cable or Freesat in order to keep watching television.

If you have not upgraded your TV to digital by the second switchover date, you will no longer receive any TV channels.

The first transmitter to be switched over is Rumster Forest which covers Albyn properties in Wick, Thurso, Bettyhill and surrounding areas.

Digital UK who are leading the switchover are running events throughout the Highland region.  These will be open to the public to attend for advice and information on how to be prepared and ready for the switchover.  There will also be Advice Points for more remote areas.  We will send you information on these events but you can also check with Digital UK either on the website or by phone.
