The Society is a registered Industrial & Provident Societies Act company, limited by guarantee. It is registered with Communities Scotland as a Registered Social Landlord. Charitable status has been granted by the Inland Revenue. The Society is a member of the Scottish Federation (SFHA) of Housing Associations and Employers in Voluntary Housing (EVH).

The governing body of the Society is the General Meeting made up of the individual members. At its annual general meeting it elects the Committee of Management. The Committee of Management has 15 places on it, of which 5 are reserved for tenant members. Nominations are made from amongst the membership. In recent years it has not been uncommon for tenants to hold the majority of seats on the Committee of Management. The Committee of Management holds 10 meetings a year, including 2 Strategy Days. Members of the Committee of Management are offered continuing training to enable them to exercise their responsibilities for the governance and accountability of the Society effectively. Members are elected for 3 years. Approximately 5 places are open for election each year.

The Committee of Management has responsibility for the strategic management of the Society, and considers reports on future developments, policy & procedures and performance achievements. It has 4 Sub-committees: Audit, Disciplinary, Staff Consultative Forum and Complaints.

The Society has 4 main Service Areas. They are Development; Finance & IT; Housing and Community Services (including Support) and Property Maintenance. Each has a common structure of Service Area Director, Manager (or Co-ordinator), with Officers and Assistants, as appropriate. Corporate Services comprises the Chief Executive, Personal Assistant and Reception staff. Support Services staff are based in Inverness. The rest of the staff are in the head office in Invergordon. Service Areas Directors comprise the Executive Team, along with the Chief Executive.
