Scotland's Housing Expo 2010
Four budding artists all under one Albyn roof
22 December 2009

A children’s art competition launched by Albyn Housing finds a family of four budding artists, all under one roof.

Albyn Housing asked its young residents to send in drawings of family life in an Albyn home.

Talented young artists from throughout the Highlands entered the competition, submitting their best work to a judging panel comprising Albyn’s four directors.

Calum Macaulay, Albyn’s Chief Executive, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response we received and had a hard time choosing the winner. We thought all the entries were brilliant, in the end we chose a wonderful picture drawn by Paulina, Agnesa, Karolina and Damian.  Encouragingly, we were delighted that so many of our young residents participated in the competition, showing positive family life in an Albyn home."

Siblings Paulina (10), Agnesa (9), Karolina (8) and Damian (6) worked together to submit their drawings of their family home in Aviemore.

Eva Paluga, the artists’ mother, said: “We have been happily living in an Albyn home in Aviemore for well over a year. We are kept up-to-date by the newsletter we receive, there I spotted the competition and I suggested to the children that they should enter.  They wanted to draw one picture of our house, so we stuck six pieces of paper together and they each added their own individual style.“

The star prize went to the Paluga family who each received gift vouchers to spend. The judges were so impressed with the entries they received that they decided to award all the artists a prize.

Albyn Housing has an ongoing commitment to work with its residents and will continue to work within the local community to develop these relationships. Most recently,  Albyn Housing announced that as of next spring, Albyn tenants will receive the first ever yearly consultation calendar which will highlight how and when they can have their say about the services that affect them.
